Deeper into wreck diving

BSAC HAS RELEASED THE NEW Advanced Wreck Diver , the latest in its suite of wreck diving Skill Development Courses ( SDC ). Building on the Wreck Diving SDC and its predecessor , Wreck Appreciation , Advanced Wreck Diver introduces the skills and knowledge a diver needs to safely enter and explore a wreck site . The syllabus is extensive and includes line laying , diving in zero viz conditions , long hose deployment skills and diving in overhead wreck environments . Advanced Wreck Diver is open to all Sports Divers ( or equivalent ) and above , who have already completed the Wreck Diver SDC and who want to develop their skills so they can safely dive and explore the interior of a wreck . The use of a twinset or CCR is a mandatory requirement for this course .
Once successfully completed , students will be able to take part in and help plan full wreck penetration dives within the limits of their diving grade .
“ This new course is a natural extension to the BSAC ’ s wreck diver training courses by offering more advanced diving skills to enable the safe penetration of a wreck ,” said BSAC course author John Adam . “ With our long history of wreck diving combined with the passion our members have for diving historical sites , Advanced Wreck Diver is expected to be a very popular course .”
The instructor materials for Advanced Wreck Diver have already been released , so clubs interested in offering the SDC to their members can now deliver the course in-branch , provided they have a suitably qualified instructor .
More information on the Advanced Wreck Diver instructor materials can be found at bsac . com / instructorresources
Face-to-face instruction
With the easing of restrictions enabling BSAC ’ s Programme of Events 2021 to include face-to-face instruction , the first regionally held Advanced Wreck Diver course has now also been scheduled . It will take place over two weekends ( 24-26 September and 2-3 October ) in Plymouth . To book a place go to bsac . com / events
