fairssign up 576 members THE 2025 FRESHERS FAIR SEASON SAW a bumper turnout of university students signing up for scuba.
Every year BSAC’ s university clubs receive support to help them recruit new members over the freshers’ season. And within the first few weeks of the new academic year, 34 university clubs had already signed up for their freshers support packs from BSAC HQ.
All the hard work promoting scuba and snorkelling to the new first year students at their university has now started to pay off. As a result, 576 new BSAC university club members were recruited at fresher fairs during September and October, beating last year’ s new member total of 508.
BSAC’ s University Coordinator, Joe Westnedge said the 2025 Fresher Fair season had once again hit the mark.
“ It has been a joy to see all the creative ways our university branches have used to recruit this freshers, from their social media accounts to club mascots and RIBs all being put on display to grow their clubs.”
As well as the fresher fair successes, BSAC has seen a 100 % take up of eLearning and digital training packs among university branches as they prepare for the winter training season.
“ This year our uni clubs have also been adapting well to the new myBSAC platform to sign up new members. And the number of try dives completed on such short timescales has been impressive – congratulations to you all,” Joe added.
Joe is now on hand if any BSAC university club still needs any help or support with recruitment or training. He can be contacted unicoordinator @ bsac. com

Here’ s just what some of BSAC’ s university clubs have to say about their Fresher Fair 2025 successes:
“ This freshers’ season has been incredible! We had a huge turnout at the sports fayre, way beyond what we expected. Our Try Dive event was also a success- full of enthusiasm and new divers keen to get started. We ran two weekends of drysuit inductions as well, and while not everyone stayed completely dry, it was smiles all round!”
KIRSTY CLAY Secretary, St Andrews University SAC( SAUSAC)
“ It was great talking to students who were enthusiastic about learning to dive, and the feedback from our try dives was very positive. As in previous years, we now have full cohorts of Ocean and Sports Divers for Term One!”
TEODORA VARGA Training Officer, Warwick University SAC
“ We have done incredibly well in recruiting new NUSACers to the club this year, with over 100 responses to the interest form and 41 new trainees! The courses are off to a good start and we’ ve got our work cut out for us this year!”
WIL PRITCHARD President, University of Nottingham SAC
“ Our Freshers events went brilliantly- our try divers and instructors all had loads of fun. If they weren’ t so exhausting to organise, I would have a try dive every week!”
