BSAC’ s new sustainability appointment

BSAC HAS APPOINTED environmental scientist Katherine Knight as head of its new Environment and Sustainability Group.
Katherine will now lead a volunteer team as it guides the organisation on green issues, continuing the good work begun by Jane Maddocks, former adviser on Heritage and Environment.
Katherine will be familiar to many within BSAC through her work at Scottish conservation charity Seawilding, where she provided expert guidance and helped develop BSAC’ s Shore Surveyor and Underwater Surveyor courses. She was also instrumental in work to promote the Great Seagrass Survey.
Katherine said she was delighted to be taking up the role of chair of the Environment and Sustainability Group.
“ It is really positive to see a wellrespected organisation such as BSAC putting the environment at the heart of its vision. I am looking forward to working with the fantastic team at BSAC and developing some exciting initiatives to benefit BSAC members and the ocean we all love.”
Mary Tetley, BSAC CEO, said she looked forward to working with Katherine and the new Environment and Sustainability Group.
“ We are all keen to move this strategic area forward in 2025 and beyond and look forward to putting together a team with Katherine that will make a real difference,” she added.

To protect and preserve

BSAC MEMBERS WHO DIVE ON protected wrecks are invited to join the Protected Wrecks Association( PWA) and share their experiences.
PWA champions wreck sites around the UK that are covered by military or civilian protection laws. By collaborating, sharing information, researching and monitoring wreck sites protected under cultural heritage legislation, PWA members play a key role in their preservation.
With the Protected Wrecks Act marking its 50th year in 2023, the PWA is now looking to engage with more voluntary divers who have an active interest in protected wreck sites. Membership of PWA is free and members get the chance to share their research, survey data, or expedition reports and contribute to the wider resources around the UK’ s 55 + protected wreck sites.
