Instructors embrace MyBSAC app
MORE THAN 64,720 LESSONS HAVE been signed off via the MyBSAC app since its new digital Qualification Record Book ( eQRB ) was launched in February last year .
A total of 1,032 BSAC instructors have contributed to this significant milestone , demonstrating the huge benefit of the app when it comes to progressing club trainees ’ training .
Using the eQRB function on MyBSAC enables instructors to sign off their students ’ lessons without the need for paperwork . Online training via BSAC ’ s eLearning can also be checked .
Digitally signing off lessons also means that students have an accessible record of their training progress on their smartphone . They can also view their qualifications and access training materials on the go , via the MyBSAC app .
Although not compulsory , the convenience of recording lessons via the sign-off function has been welcomed by many BSAC instructors .
These include Mid-Herts SAC ’ s Clive Murphy and Debbie Butler , from Kingston and Elmbridge SAC , who have each signed off 500 lessons via the app .
Debbie said she started using the app ’ s sign off function as soon as it came online .
“ I used the app to sign off lessons as trainees often forgot their training record ,” she explained . “ The app meant that the trainees and other instructors could instantly see a record of how the student ’ s training was progressing .”
Clive Murphy said the app has been seen as a ‘ great leap forward ’ by Mid-Herts SAC ’ s trainees as well as the club ’ s instructor team .
“ As Instructors , it was becoming increasingly difficult to get students to deal with paper-based qualification records and they often forgot to bring along QRBs .
“ With Internet access and smartphones being generally available , it ’ s now very straightforward to sign off the lessons then and there .”
The MyBSAC app is available to members for free via the Apple Store for iPhone and Google Play for Android devices . The app offers a range of features that allow divers to track their progress , view their qualifications , and access training materials . Fast track instructor crossovers
CLUB MEMBERS WITH OTHER AGENCY instructor qualifications can also easily teach within their branch , with a one-day instructor crossover course .
A total of 34 Instructor Crossover courses were run by BSAC during 2023 , qualifying more than 50 already-trained divers so that they can teach as an Open Water Instructor within their BSAC club .
And , for clubs who may be experiencing a shortfall of qualified instructors in their team , the Instructor Crossover is a great way to keep already qualified divers motivated and involved .
Held over one day , the course enables an already qualified instructor from another agency to familiarise themselves with BSAC instructor techniques as well as the Diver Training Programme .
The one-day course costs £ 150 . To be eligible , you need to be a member of a BSAC club and have evidence of your other agency instructor grade , which must have been active within the past five years .
