What Is The Return

Of Your Words?

A farmer knows how the system works: you plant seeds; you reap a harvest.
The same is true of our words.
When we speak God’s Word, it is Life-giving. The writer of Hebrews tells us that “the word of God is living, and powerfully working.” (Heb. 4:12a RGT)
Whether we speak the seed of God’s Word or our own seed-words, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” (Prov. 18:21a NKJV)
Death and life. Whew! Pretty scary, huh? A huge responsibility for us. What we say is vitally important.
Words produce a harvest of results. For harm or for good. Words, therefore, have the power to create. Create what? Whatever they are sent to do. Words can create an atmosphere of love or hate, build someone up or tear them down, bless someone or curse them.
We forget how fragile another’s heart can be. And how a positive or negative word can etch into that heart. Forever.
When we attempt to be kind to others, they may spew rotten words back at us, but that is not the harvest of what we speak to them. Our words, if spoken lovingly and positively, and with God’s Word, will rest in their souls and coax a little bud of life to grow at just the right time.
