ODDLY OUTSTANDING OWLS side of their head but not owls. Although, owls cannot move their eyes in their eye sockets. Since an owl cannot look around while keeping their heads still, they are gifted with an amazing power. This amazing power is to turn their heads almost 360 degrees! (A maximum of turn of 270 degrees.) Also, owls can be crazy, especially when in a house. Their natural instincts can make them a little weird. Here are some reasons why: Owls have a few funny features for a reason. Have you seen an owl with two tufts of fur on the sides of it head, where its ears would go? Well, those aren’t really ears. They are just random clumps of fur on their heads that some owls don’t even have. Owls ears are actually small holes in their heads that you can barely see. The owls ears are asymmetrical on their heads at different heights. This lets them be able to very accurately locate sound. Owls also have funny beaks. Owls beaks are designed specifically for tearing prey. An owl's beak is purposely curved down to make sure they can see without a blind spot shielding their view. Lastly, an owls strange stomach. Owls eat their prey and later on they regurgitate owl pellets which are undigested pieces of bone and feathers of the animal they ate earlier. - Owls are not domesticated, which means they are not trained to live with people like dogs. - Owls have a natural killing instinct and they will rip up almost anything that could be torn or shredded. - Owls hate to be pet and cuddled. These are the reasons I don’t think you would want an owl. There are a few more things that wouldn’t be fun to do if you had an owl. First of all, how would you like to serve up animal carcasses such as rats and mice on a daily basis? Usually, vacation with a pet is simply calling up any person who is capable of feeding your pet. Well, not with owls. You would have to call up a person who is willing to feed your owl a dead, frozen mouse any time the owl gets hungry. If you can’t find anyone, and would like to bring you owl along with you, think of this; an owl in a hotel. Not a very good idea. Another thing is owls sleep during the day, and they are active when you are making a racket in your house. Don’t wake your owl! Shhh! Oh, and owls poop. Lastly, they poop a lot actually. Their poop also smells terrible, since they are carnivores and eat meat. Owls as a Pet Do you have an owl as a pet in your house? I hope you have a special permit if so! In the United States, private individuals cannot have owls as pets. You can only legally have an owl/ owls if you have a special permit. This is a rule in a lot of countries, including America. You can get arrested if found keeping an owl in captivity as a pet in your household if you don’t have a permit. In conclusion, if you have an owl and no permit, I highly recommend getting one. Loud Owls at Night First of all, you may hear that many owls are nocturnal, which means they sleep at day. Although some owls sleep at night, just like humans. When owls sleep at day, they sleep -20-
