 z Wicked the Musical is a musical about two witches About Idina Menzel Idina Menzel, the actress who played Elphaba in “Wicked”, says, “It’s been deliberate since ‘Wicked’ for sure. The best feeling in the world is to stand there with a composer who has a new song for you.” Menzel says she fell in love with London when she did Wicked and made a lot of friends for life there, including Kristin Chenoweth. “I have several favorite moments,” says Menzel, “it depends on the day. I love singing the duet with Kristin in the end because I am always in awe of how different our voices are and yet, when we sing in unison, how wonderfully they blend.” Menzel says she always wants to do things that are different and challenging, to work with composers and directors she’s always wanted to work with. who are extremely different from each other. They have no hope of being friends. Especially best friends. The “good” witch is Glinda Upland. The “bad” witch is Elphaba Thropp. They both go to Shiz University where they meet. At first they deeply loathe each other. Then slowly, gradually, they begin to like each other and become best friends. Why do they have no hope of being best friends? Because Glinda is extremely popular. Elphaba, however, is the exact opposite. Elphaba Elphaba is one of the main characters, played by Idina Menzel. Elphaba was born in the rural areas of Munchkinland in Rush Margins, in the land of Oz. When Elphaba finds out “the Wizard of Oz” is not actually a wizard, she stands up for what she believes in. Her life becomes a tragic fate! At Shiz, Elphaba is tormented by her fellow pupils because her skin is green. Some people call her Elphie, Fabala, Fae, the Wicked Witch of the West,  Auntie,  Auntie Witch, and Sister St./ Elphaba. As for her family, Elphaba has a sister, Nessarose, –6–
