Money

The currency in Romania is called „Leu” and the plural is „Lei” (the translation of this word in English would be „lion”). However, the official short form of the currency is RON. A particular thing about Romanian money is that all the banknotes are made of plastic. The values of the banknotes are 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 200 and 500 lei.

You can check bellow the exchange rate of RON in different currencies:

1 EURO ≈ 4.5 RON

1 USD≈ 4 RON

1 GBP≈ 6.2 RON

You can find a lot of exchange offices in the cities, where you can usually exchange the currencies above. Sometimes, you can also exchange other currencies but that is usually only in banks, where exchange rates are not as advantageous. ATMs are widely available all over the country and credit cards are also accepted in almost all the stores and restaurants.
