Language

Romanian language is one of the Latin languages of the world. There are a lot of similarities between it and Spanish, French or Italian, although sometimes they might seem hard to spot.

Besides the Latin words, Romanian vocabulary contains words of different origins such as Dacian, Slavic, Turkish and even Hungarian.

Also, the alphabet contains some letters which are not common to the other Latin languages, such as “ă”, “â”, “î”, “ș”, “ț” .

People from different part of the country use different accents, without making it impossible for them to understand each other. However, because of this, for a foreigner, Romanian may sometimes sound more similar to Russian or to Italian, depending on the accent he hears.

Culture

omania is the country in Europe where the Western culture meets the Eastern culture.

Romanian people were formed as a blend between the Roman Empire and the Kingdom of Dacia. Above all these, a lot of influences were added, such as Byzantine, Slavic, Turkish and Balkanic. In some aspects, the Latin background prevails, whereas in others the influences were stronger.
