Moatasem Esmat isn’t the only one out there innovating there’s Zaha Hadid, the Iranian architect who was chosen to design Cairo Expo City. Her design is flawless, with the same curvy style as Esmat’s. It’s a fresh breeze in the jammed city. While it’s built in a relatively deserted area, the architect makes us dream offering us a maritime, aquatic design in the middle of the busy streets and highways of Cairo.
For one, the elevation in the volumes are flexible. They’re white which is really pleasant for the eye and allows the sunlight to slip through the volume’s curves. Seeing its texture rounded with convex and concave areas, it’s a modern style freeing us from the restriction of the urban city.
As futuristic as it may be, it allows you to prepare for the future and sustainability of architecture in Egypt. It gives you hope of a better tomorrow full of innovation and creativity. It sends a message to the young architects of today that they must master the element of « space », « time », « technology » yet not forget about the environment in which he is conceiving his building. It’s time for Egypt to embrace the world of innovation and technology and the architecture discipline is ready and welcoming for that change to take place. This new design is reminding them of how architecture is supposed to be, what is its true definition. Architecture is not just the design of a building to house people but it is the whole structure, tradition, beliefs of a nation. Architecture is the thoughts of a man visible in a 3D volume. I’ll leave you with these words to imagine yourselves a future urban Cairo full of modernity, innovation, sustainability and creativity.
