Over the last few decades , advancements in computer and software technologies have reached an impressive level . Of course , all those upgrades in the past decade can ’ t be listed in one peace of paper but here ’ s a list of the biggest advances in software and hardware technology :
1 . AI ( Artificial Intelligence ) AI refers to computers systems built to mimic human intelligence and perform tasks such as recognition of images , speech or patterns and decision making . AI can do these tasks faster and more accurately than humans . AI is used everyday in one form or another , including navigation apps , smartphone personal assistants . AI is also used to schedule trains , assess business risk , amongother money-saving tasks .
2 . Virtual Reality and Augmented
Reality Virtual Reality ( VR ) immerses the user in an environment while Augment Reality ( AR ) enhances their environment . Although VR has primarily been used for gaming thus far , it has also been used for training , as with “ VirtualShip ”, a simulation software used to train U . S . Navy ship captains . An example of AR is the popular game “ Pokemon GO ”. Both have enormous potential in training , entertainment , education , marketing , and even rehabilitation after an injury .

increase by 150 % this year alone .
5 . Edge Computing In cloud computing , processing power is centralized . Data must travel from a device to servers to be processed , with the output then pushed back to the device . While edge computing , pushes generation , collection , and analysis out to the point of origin - the IoT devices and sensors - as opposed to a data center or cloud . Edge computing is faster , more secure , more adaptable , more diverse and more reliable . Edge computing offers several advantages over traditional forms of network architecture and will surely continue to play an important role for companies going forward .
We can see how far technology and computer science has come a long way and it ’ s still evolving . New advances are made every day and some day what we now think it ’ s impossible will become reality .
