7 STEPS...

7 BILLION PEOPLE!

1.NEIGHBOURHOOD CLEAN-UP!

Are you fed up with trash everywhere? It is estimated that Cairo produces 10 000 tonnes of rubbish every day while only 60% of it collected and the rest is left on the streets in piles. Have a neighbourhood clean-up and install recycling bins to facilitate the Zabaleens’ job. Organize groups, wear old clothes, put on pair of gloves and hit the alleys and parking lots and pick up the trash. Don’t forget to post signs to raise awareness.

2.Carpooling

If you are fed up with the costs, traffic and stress related to driving then you can go CARPOOLING. It will help you save money on gas, car maintenance and pollutions. According to the Sightline Institute, an average car emits 0.5 Kg of carbon dioxide per mile, however, when you carpool the number decreases to 0.16 KG per person-mile. You will get to know your neighbours while saving the environment.

3.Don’t Waste Water

Simply don’t let water run. More than 3.4 million people die each year from a water related disease; more than 780 million people lack access to clean water. Take a 4 minutes shower instead of an 8 minutes shower will help you save almost 10 gallons of water. Drop tissues in the trash instead of flushing them and save water every time.

7.Print on two-sides.

Newspapers, Toilet Paper, Bus tickets, Junk Mail, Tissues, Shopping Bags, Receipts, Labels, Money… and the list goes on. The amount of paper we consume per year is estimated to be 700 pounds per year. Forests contain 50% of the world's terrestrial carbon, half of them have already been burnt therefore we should not waste papers.

Paper made with 100% recycled content uses 44% less energy, produces 38% less greenhouse gas emissions, 41% less particulate emissions, 50% less wastewater!
