ROJESH SHRESTHA Biology
After moving from Nepal to study in the United States , Rojesh found his niche at Stevenson . “ Recently I was doing ecology research and spent most of my time in a kayak collecting samples and fishing . Now I ’ m working in a lab investigating the role of ubiquitination gene in C . elegans and mouse embryonic cells . In the past , I ’ ve volunteered at health clinics in America and Nepal , and I was a part of Stevenson ’ s Summer Science Scholars Research program .
“ I am very grateful for the support of the faculty here at Stevenson — they have provided me with encouragement along the way and helped me to become a better professional .” After graduation , Rojesh is applying to medical school and hopes to volunteer with Medicines Sans Frontiers ( Doctors Without Borders ) one day .

The field of biology is constantly advancing and is always in need of well-prepared science professionals . As biology majors at Stevenson , students receive a strong foundation in the breadth of disciplines that make up the biological sciences . They build upon this foundation by choosing specialized electives in their fields of interest .
Biology majors at SU have ample opportunities to participate in research with faculty in cutting edge fields throughout their college career . Through the senior capstone course , independent , career-oriented experience is gained . Based on personal career goals , students may choose either independent laboratory or field research experience on- or off-campus , or they may choose to complete an internship with a company , agency , or organization in a field of their choice . Faculty and staff within the School work with each student to create an optimal capstone experience .
Graduates are well prepared for careers in biomedical research or industry as well as for admission to a wide variety of graduate programs and professional schools . Graduates of the biology program have gone on to employment in the biotechnology industry , masters and doctoral degree programs in various fields , and professional programs in medicine , physical therapy , dentistry , physician assistant , veterinary medicine and others . In addition , students receiving their bachelor ’ s degree in biology may continue on to receive their Master of Arts in Teaching ( M . A . T .) at Stevenson or their Master of Science ( M . S .) in Forensic Sciences , in either the traditional or the combined B . S . to M . A . T . or B . S . to M . S . options . For more information , see pages 14-17 in this brochure .
