MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

Hello, and welcome to the Sandra R. Berman School of Nursing and Health Professions.
If you’ re considering a career in nursing or medical laboratory science, Stevenson University is a great choice. Our programs offer a robust curriculum in a student-centered learning environment. When you graduate, you will be well prepared to take the national certification and licensing exams that will be your entry into a satisfying healthcare career.
As a School of Nursing and Health Professions student, you will learn the importance of collaboration and effective communication among a team of health professionals as well as with patients, their families, and the communities in which they live. While nurses and medical laboratory scientists play different roles, they are both critical to the health and safety of patients. Both professions require critical-thinking skills, knowledge of disease processes, careful assessment and planning skills, analysis of test results, and clinical decision-making.
In 2016, the Berman School of Nursing and Health Professions moved into Stevenson’ s new 200,000-square-foot Kevin J. Manning Academic Center where our state-of-the-art skills and simulation learning center allow nursing students to learn and practice skills in a simulated hospital environment. Starting in the third year of study, students participate in mentored, supervised clinical practice in a variety of settings throughout the Baltimore region. Our medical laboratory science students now have new and well-equipped science laboratories in microbiology and immunology as well as the basic sciences.
At Stevenson University, we care about positioning you for a successful and rewarding career in the health professions. Our team of talented faculty, skilled clinicians, and experienced advisors will help you reach your goal of becoming a competent, knowledgeable, and compassionate practitioner.
I look forward to helping you get started on your career path.
