Business Communication
Small class sizes, the
accessibility of professors,
and the tight community
are what initially attracted
Eddie to Stevenson, and
these factors are still what
he enjoys most about
Stevenson today.
“The professors really
connect with you as a
person. They’re helpful,
knowledgeable, and
relatable. My professors
have taught me lessons
inside and outside of the
classroom. They’ve forced
me to think critically about
the subject matter and
how to implement the
material I’ve learned. For
instance, I just completed
an Integrated Marketing
Communication project,
which focused on
rebranding a real-world,
nonprofit organization.”

Stevenson’s business communication program addresses the need for competent
communication practitioners in today’s diverse and dynamic workplace. In this major, students
acquire a variety of skills and knowledge from courses in communication, business, writing, and
design. Graduates typically work in positions such as those found in corporate communication,
marketing, public relations, non-profit leadership, and event planning among many others.
They are employed in both the public and private sectors and often pursue graduate degrees.
Business communication students strengthen their talents each year by taking courses
that teach interpersonal, intercultural, small group, organizational, and professional
communication. They develop their speaking abilities through many opportunities in
presentation and audience assessment. In addition, business communication students
gain specialized knowledge in the areas of business, writing, and design through courses in
marketing, management, professional writing, and visual literacy. They emerge from the
program as confident, well-spoken leaders who understand how to reach an audience, how to
engage others in teamwork, and how to work with or on the diverse communication, creative
problem-solving, and decision-making teams found in today’s marketplace.
The B.S. to M.S. option is available for students majoring in business communication who
wish to combine their bachelor’s coursework with work toward a master’s degree in one of
Stevenson’s graduate programs including a new Master of Science in Communication Studies.
