The nursing program prepares nurses to meet the challenges of the nursing profession in the 21st century. The philosophy and focus emphasize the ethics of care, critical thinking, and a spirit of inquiry in education, practice, service, and research. Upon successful completion of all degree requirements, graduates are eligible for the National Council Licensure Examination( NCLEX-RN) to become registered nurses.
Students enter the nursing major upon admission to the University and are given program-specific guidance throughout the curriculum. Clinical nursing courses begin in the third year and engage students in dealing with real-life issues in the world of healthcare. Small classes and clinical groups afford rich opportunities for students to build oneon-one professional mentoring relationships with nursing faculty.
Leaders in the nursing community value graduates of Stevenson’ s nursing program for their strong clinical skills and professionalism. The Stevenson nursing program also has an outstanding reputation among employers in Maryland and beyond.
