All students should:
Tell a teacher, parent, friend or other adult you trust if you think you are being bullied.
Report any instances of bullying which you see or hear about.
Keep and report any hurtful text or social network messages and do not retaliate or respond to them.
Be safe and sensible on social network sites – only befriend real friends, block anyone who upsets you
and “think before you type”.
Make themselves „bullyproof‟ by staying with friends, walking away from bullies and not retaliating at
any time.
All parents should:
Watch for signs of bullying.
Listen to your child – establish if the problem really is bullying and not something else.
Contact your child‟s Form Tutor or Head of Year and do not encourage retaliation.
Support your child‟s use of ICT and familiarise yourself with safe practice.
Support your child to deal with problems by him or herself.
How will we deal with bullying?
The school aims to create a caring environment where students will „tell‟ if they are victims of bullying.
However, if bullying does occur the school may initially use the „no blame approach‟. This involves a clear
conversation with the bully about the effects and consequences of bullying. The bully is given the
opportunity to change their behaviour. However, the school will punish persistent bullies and this could
entail parental consent, detention, isolation and even exclusion in cases of persistent bullying.
