My research includes bioprospecting microbes as solutions for environmental sustainability and sustainable agri-food production. This includes the use of beneficial microbial isolates, biogenically synthesized nanoparticles, exopolymeric substances, bioformulations and seed coating for crop improvement. For environmental sustainability, we identify microbes that can remove toxic pollutants and degrade plastics.
My team also conducts research on the discovery of lesser known microbes such as endophytes and endolichenic fungi for valuable bioactive compounds and anticancer compounds. New explorations include discovery of thermophilic microbes.
Research on the discovery of microbes from mangroves for various applications highlights the importance of these tropical wetlands for conservation and in building resilience of mangroves towards climate change.
