Viral Immunology and Autoimmunity
My research investigates fundamental mechanisms of innate immunity, focusing on how the immune system distinguishes self from non-self in infection and autoimmunity. We study nucleic acid sensors that detect pathogenic DNA or RNA, defining their molecular activation pathways and functional roles in health and disease.

My group also examines host restriction factors, antiviral proteins that block viral replication and the strategies viruses use to evade or antagonize these defences, reflecting an ongoing evolutionary arms race.
In parallel, we explore how failures in immune regulation lead to autoimmunity, where self-antigens are misrecognized, triggering chronic inflammation and tissue damage. Through integrated molecular, cellular and organismal approaches, we aim to uncover unifying principles that govern immune recognition, viral countermeasures and tolerance breakdown, providing insights into the mechanisms that underlie infectious, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
