I leverage sequencing technologies to characterise genomes and variations in humans, microbes and endemic species across the tree of life. Genes associated with recurrent pregnancy losses and variants associated with human host responses to microbes and parasites are being identified to understand disease pathogenesis, identify diagnostic markers and offer future therapeutic options.
My team leads the Malaysian BioGenome Project Consortium, which aims to characterize genomic variation across endemic Malaysian species and involves local expertise and stakeholders. In parallel, we survey environmental DNA( air, soil and water) and use it as a non-invasive tool for monitoring wildlife and their habitats. Potential areas for collaborative research include targeted or whole genome sequencing analysis of microbes, flora, fauna, humans and environmental samples.
I am passionate about building local capacity in sequencing data analysis and training the next generation of leaders in the field of conservation, evolutionary and population genomics
