School Magazine I come from Greece, a country in the Mediterranean sea. It is between Italy and Turkey. I don’ t come from the capital, Athens. My hometown is Kalamata. It is built on the Messenian bay. My country has got large plains but also high mountains, such as Mt. Olympos. It also has a lot of islands and beautiful beaches! (by Marialena) Greece is an awesome country. It is opposite Turkey and also shares borders with Albania. It is in the Balkan peninsula. My country has many islands, big or small. Greece is between two big seas, The Aegean sea to the east and the Ionian to the west. The capital of this awesome country is Athens but there are also many big cities apart from Athens. There are many big mountains and Mt. Olympus is the biggest. Greece is surrounded by sea. The sun is like a twin brother of Greece. My country is poor because of political problems. There aren’ t many people because it is a small country. To be specific, about 11 million people but there are immigrants, too. We are trying to be hospitable with all of them. Many tourists visit Greece because it is a historical country. Its civilization dates back thousands of years ago and it is an interesting one. (by Vaggelis) I live in Kalamata. Kalamata is situated in the south-west of Greece. It is built near the mountain Taygetos. Taygetos has forests with wild animals and lots of useful herbs. Kalamata is built near the sea and it has a bay, the Messenian bay. Kalamata has got two rivers, Nedon and Pamisos. The climate in Kalamata is mild. In the winter it is rainy but it never snows in our city. In the summer it is sunny and hot. The town is 11 centuries old. There is an old castle built on top of a hill, overlooking the city and the sea. . Below the castle there is the old town with its small houses and quiet narrow streets. But there is also the modern town and its neighbourhoods with blocks of flats, busy streets and lots of cars. Every year Kalamata hosts a dance festival and a documentary festival.
