over the planet with our sound (and maybe Mars if they
ever figure out how to put oxygen up there). I only see
one original member from those days occasionally.
Do you have a favorite local bands that you’ve done
shows with? If so, do
you care to share their
names with us?
Logan: Knightmare,
Killing the Catalyst,
Enemy in Disguise,
Dizzy Parker, and Waking Tera are a few awesome groups that we
had have the pleasure
of working with!
Jake: The Ghost Of
Saturday Nite from
Raleigh is one of my
favorites, they’ve got a
really raging punk-rock
sound that compliments our whole “metal assault” perfectly on the shows
we’ve done together. SkyCrest is another Raleigh band
that I enjoy, really cool dudes as well.
Bill: We have a lot of local friends that we play with.
Knightmare, Killing the Catalyst, Enemy in Disguise,
Dizzy Parker, and Waking Tera. All of which are great
groups and we enjoy sharing the stage with them.
Taylor: Killing The Catalyst, Drill 187, and Knightmare.
How do you feel about your local music scene?
What would you like to see change?
Logan: I feel as if our local music scene could be a
bit more supportive. Not to say it’s bad, but I think every struggling artist can name a few towns with a content music scene that doesn’t want to improve. We have
gotten a ton of support from our North Carolina family, but we still have a lot of work to do to make bigger
waves here. I’d like to see everyone spend more money on local acts to bring out more people. Every band
starts somewhere.
Jake: North Carolina’s music scene has enormous
potential, but with so many bands and a shrinking
number of venues, it’s become harder than ever. Sometimes it can seem like some bands have a tendency to
feel competitive towards one another. Conflict never
helps a scene, so we do our best to stay out of it.
Bill: My answer to this does not apply to JUST my
local scene, but to the “local” scene everywhere, and I
feel my answer speaks on everyone’s behalf when I say
a lot of people say they support, but always try to do or
get everything for free. That is a complete contradiction.
We as musicians put in a lot of time and money to make
our art. A lot of the money to be made is from door
splits, guarantees, and/or selling merchandise. Our
“supporters” want to help out, but some don’t like hearing that they have to pay. There are a lot of little things
that can be changed. Considering this industry is ever

changing, there will always be something, but one of
the biggest things I want to see change is that all bands’
“supporters” actually supporting.
Most bands dream of making it big or reaching the
top. Do you guys have that dream or do you care if
you get a recording
contract?
Logan: That is
always the dream
for any local band!
We have the fire
that will continue to
burn, fueled by our
fans and dreams of
bring our music to
the masses. One
day we hope to reel
in the big one, but
we’ve got to start in
the small pond first.
Jake: Quitting
our jobs and making just enough money to sustain travel expenses (and
maybe eat) would be our ultimate goal. I can’t say for
sure how a major record contract would come in to play
there. With the state of the industry these days, DIY
seems to be the way to go. I feel that it’s important to
surround yourself with people that are truly interested
in helping push your career forward. Merch people, street-teamers, show
bookers, management,
web guys...You have to
build a team of your own.
Those people will stick
with you tirelessly while
having your best interests
at heart, and most of the
time that’s more than a label will do.
Bill: Of course, that’s
always a goal that we can
drive towards. Some play
just for the enjoyment of
it, some play to make a
career out of it. Me personally, it’s both. I play because I love it, it is part of
who I am. It would most
certainly be an accomplishment if something
major came out of it!
As we finish this interview is there anything
you would like to add?
Logan: I would like to
thank our fans and supporters, and the men and
women of our armed ser-
vices. Without you all, we could not be here. I hope everyone has enjoyed what we have brought to the table so
far and will continue to grow with us. We are currently
in the middle of writing a new album. Also working on
some southern tour dates in November. I’m happy to
have this opportunity to bring our band to new faces!
Jake: We’re proud to announce that we’ve been nominated for three International Music & Entertainment
Awards (IMEA’s) this year. We’re currently on the ballot for Metal Group of the Year, Album of the Year, and
Song of the Year. Check it out athttp://www.imeaawards.
com/vote/music/ and please shoot us a vote!
Bill: Of course. I would like to personally send out
a thank you to some who have supported us from the
very beginning. First and foremost, I want to thank my
wonderful parents for believing in my brother (Logan
X) and I, pushing us to better ourselves on our instruments. Also thank you to those who are close to me. I
cannot ask for anything better than having good friends
who support and appreciate my work. For those who
have done anything and everything you can to help us
further ourselves, THANK YOU!
Taylor: Check out the band, merch, and music. Find
it, get it, wear it, and most importantly, play it loud.
We would like to thank “Against Their Will” for
taking time for this interv
