Sceneazine.com continue from last page-Against Their Will www.againsttheirwill.com Taylor: I’d say we average 50 to 70 shows a year, and we ALWAYS have upcoming shows. If someone asks you to describe the band’s sound how would you answer that? Logan: I simply say we’re like a new fusion of Metallica & Godsmack. Most of the time we are compared to those two, but I have been told Five Finger Death Punch before. Jake: I’ll usually tell them it’s simply a rock/heavy metal mutation. It’s like an “old-school” style with a new-school attitude. No screaming vocals, and we play extended guitar solos. Sometimes it catches their interest, and sometimes not so much. Taylor: It’s heavy, it’s fast, you can understand the lyrics. It’s got all the goodies of modern metal sound with an actual singer. Do you guys have a favorite place that you like to play? What is it that makes that place your favorite? Logan: I always love playing Raleigh! The Lincoln Theater is awesome, Hooligans in Jacksonville NC...I love a place with a balls to the wall PA system! Jake: That’s a tough one. We’ve hit so many places that it’s gotten pretty difficult to narrow down. Raleigh, Wilmington, Jacksonville are fun spots in our home state. We enjoy some areas in upstate New York as well. Seems like people are really supportive of out-of-town musicians up there. Bill: There are a couple good venues in Raleigh, NC. Always enjoy playing there. It’s hard to say which one is my “favorite,” since we usually make the best out of anywhere we play! Taylor: Anywhere where we can have people in front of us and enough gas in the tank to get to the next gig, regardless of a specific venue. If someone was wanting to listen to your band where would they find your music? Logan: You can always check out our Facebook page, but our main domain site should have everything up to date as well! www.againsttheirwill.com Jake: We’re on just about every major music site! It’s cool since it makes it pretty convenient for, say, a diehard iTunes user to look us up in no time. Amazon, Xbox music, Zune, the list of our current distributors is massive. Someone just recently wrote me to let us know that we’re now featured on Beats Music. I have no idea what it is, but a lot of people apparently use it, so that’s cool with us! If you were trying to convince someone to come see your band what would you tell them? What do you feel makes you different from any other band? Logan: I would tell them to come out and check out our live show. We always strive to put on a show and entertain. Recently, we have been growing with new stage props, drum solos, guitar solos. We have a lot of things in the works for a bigger and better ATW! Like they say, that’s what will separate the boys from the men. Jake: Our live feel is all about letting loose and just living in the moment. You’re at a rock show, so enjoy it! We perform with a huge amount of energy and movement, so it’s important to us to see an audience that’s feeling it and giving us back that energy. It’s all about making everyone feel like they’re a part of the show as well. Bill: If they want to see a good show, come check us out. We are a very energetic band. If you are not a fan of our sound, you will at least love our stage show. Let’s get everyone to answer this. At what age did you start playing a instrument or singing? Do you still have that Instrument? Logan: I bought my first guitar at 10 years old, and I started to seriously get into playing around 14. And yes, I still have my first guitar! I started doing vocals in 2010 after we had some lineup changes. I still learn things every day on guitar and with my voice. Jake: I started on bass at 14, so I’ve been at it almost 9 years now. When I was in grade school, I noodled around with a recorder (which they made us play in elementary school, unfortunately). I also dabbled with concert percussion during my freshman year, but I never followed it seriously. Bill: I started drumming at the age of 3, on the pots and pans! What got me started was watching Animal from the Muppets. And yes, of course I still have my first drum kit in my attic! Taylor: I started playing guitar at age 17, and my first guitar is long gone. Tell me what got you interested in being in a band. What was the name of your first band and do you still keep in touch with anyone that was in your first band? Logan: I saw Metallica when I was about 9 years old, it changed my life forever. That was the moment that made me want to pursue music and inspire people the way I had been inspired. I had a few beginning bands in middle school: 11th Commandment, One Dark Monday...I haven’t talked to some of those guys in years, but I do keep in touch with one of them who actually helps us on the road from time to time. Jake: Punk rock is what got me obsessed with music. Heavy metal made me want to pursue a career in it. I must have started up a dozen unnamed projects during my first three years of high school alone. I played shows every now and then, built up some recording experience, and had a blast, but always seemed to have a hard time finding people in
