George’s Diner, daytime. Woman 1 is not eating her food, looks tired. Figures 1 and 2 are eating
at the bar. The jukebox is playing music similar to Scene 2.
Figure 1: That’s what the Bible says.
Figure 2: God’s already been the beginning. He’s more of the end than anything now.
Figure 1: That’s what I’m saying.
This music’s too loud.
Figure 2: Someone ought to shut it off.
Pause
Figure 1: All those jazz guys are pansies anyways.
Figure 2: You can say that again.
Figure 1: Real men work for a living. Raise a family.
Figure 2: They don’t go running off every which way around the country…
Figure 1: … With other men, at that.
Figure 2: You can say that again.
Alright, let’s go. You gonna leave the tip?
Figure 1: Sure, I’ve got a spare quarter.
Figures 1 and 2 get up to pay their bill. Woman 1 takes a sip of her drink and follows them to the
counter. she taps Figure 2 on the shoulder.
