Beautiful Beginnings Library To encourage a lifelong love of reading we recommend parents read to children from a very early age. To help support you, and encourage the children, we have introduced a small library in the Beautiful Beginnings reception. To ensure the success of the library we have introduced the following: • The library has been stocked with a variety of books based around our ethos of education in harmony with nature • The books include fiction and non-fiction and have all been recommended by professionals • Parents can take one book per child home to read to their children • We ask parents to return the book within 7 days to allow other children to borrow • Please return the book before taking another • We ask parents to return the book in the condition it was borrowed • If a book is damaged and cannot be repaired we would ask parents to pay for a replacement, the cost of each of the books is included on the lending out sheets If you would like to borrow a book, please choose one and then take it to reception, the receptionist will help you complete the lending out sheet for the relevant book and this will be completed again on the return of the book. We hope you find the use of the library a benefit for you and your children, if you have any suggestions for books or ideas for the library please let us know. Pre School Reported by: Laura Lattimer This term Pre School have been learning about their senses and discovering what different parts of our bodies are used for. Pre School have enjoyed playing with the underground telephone in our 'jungle forest'. They have been using their ears to listen to the different sounds their peers are making at the other end of the telephone and distinguishing between the different voices. In addition to this, Pre School have been creating their own selfportraits and talking about what colour their eyes or hair are and comparing it to their friends or to their family members. Pre School have also been enjoying their PE lessons and going to the gym and dance studio to learn about new ways that they can move their bodies. They have been doing lots of balancing and jumping and learning how to do forward rolls, which they are all thoroughly enjoying. Pre School have also learnt about the effects exercise can have on our bodies and we find that discussing this after our PE lessons to be the perfect time while the children can feel their hearts beating faster. Pre School also loved dressing up as 'superheroes' in November to help raise money for Children In Need. They did an excellent job at saving the world and designed, and made, their very own capes which they then used to help them fly around the school and the jungle forest, even making a quick stop off to wave hello to the ducks! Pre School practiced writing their name on their capes and enjoyed looking at the letters in their names. The children are interested in looking at different letters they see around the room and listening for these letters in the different words they hear. They love doing funny ‘robot’ voices which help them to segment the sounds in words and really tune into these sounds.
