Scarisbrick Hall School Winter Newsletter 2014 | Page 5
This page is written by our Nursery Manager and staff
from our day nursery Beautiful Beginnings.
Nursery have had a very busy term and have been learning lots of new
and wonderful things about the big, wide world around them! They
have been looking at animals that we find on our daily walks,
including the cows, ducks and sheep. We have been talking about
animals from all around the world and discovering the different
sounds that these animals make – which is something the children
love imitating and are getting very good at! The children have been
creating animal pictures and collages and looking at which colours to
use for the different animals whilst supporting their fine motor skills
by tearing and sticking the pieces of material onto their pictures.
We held a Forest School Open Morning for all of our Nursery and Pre
School parents which was a massive success; thank you to everybody who came along
and got involved with all the fun! We understand the importance of involving parents
in their child’s learning and we want parents to be a part of their learning experiences,
sharing how we support the children while they are in our care. All the children at
nursery have access to our 'jungle forest' which we visit year round. The children have
been looking at the changes in season, watching the leaves fall off the
trees and exploring the effects of the rain, namely splashing in the
muddy puddles!
All of the classrooms at nursery are benefitting from having weekly
music lessons delivered by our specialist music teacher, which is
something all the children enjoy and look forward to. This is a time
for the children to not only sing songs but to listen to different
sounds, move to the music, explore the different instruments and
develop an understanding of simple rhymes and rhythms. During
these lessons the children also love playing with the bubbles and
hiding under the coloured flags for when we sing ‘peepo’ songs!
Tractor Fun!
Class 3 have been looking at different vehicles
and exploring the similarities between them, in
particular emergency vehicles and tractors.
The children were all so excited when we were
lucky enough to have two of our parents bring
their tractors in for the children to look at and
pretend to drive! The children needed some help
to climb onto the tractor but loved looking at the different buttons and gears and trying to sit
inside the massive wheels!
