First School Remembrance Day Assembly On the morning of the 11th November, at 11:00 all of First School attended a very special assembly in the Great Hall. Our Remembrance Assembly took place as a mark of respect for all of the troops and volunteers that died or were injured in the various wars. This year was a special occasion as it marked the Centenary of the end of the First World War. A model Cenotaph was displayed at the front of the assembly as a point of focus and several poems were read by children in Y4. Children and staff showed their support for this occasion by wearing poppies. We took a moment to reflect on heroes of past and present and after the silence we listened to a recording of 'The Last Post', which was very moving in the atmosphere of the Great Hall. Finally a prayer was read before finishing the assembly and returning to our lessons. The children were an absolute credit, remaining quiet and still throughout the assembly as a mark of respect. PFA News Reported by: Jacqui Padden - PFA Secretary We have held a number of events this year and all the money raised goes towards providing non educational equipment for the benefit of our pupils. This year we managed to secure enough money to buy the school a defibrillator and the funding was subsequently matched enabling us to provide two, which is fantastic, so thank you to everyone who contributed. Thank you also to everyone who attended the First School Spooky Disco in October. It was great seeing so many children there having fun and we will be planning a Middle School disco in the Spring term. Once again this year the PFA have held a Secret Present Room during December 8th-10th. Children only were permitted into the room, and have purchased gifts for parents, grandparents and siblings which will have been wrapped, tagged and ready to go under the tree! The Secret Present Room proved very popular again with the children as it did last year and gave them the opportunity to handpick a little gift for their family members without others knowing what they have chosen. We hope you enjoy the gifts. Finally, we took over the organising of the Scarisbrick Hall School Family Christmas Ball this year which was held on Saturday 29th November at Formby Hall Golf Club with over 240 people attending. The evening was compered by former pupil Scott Chapman and entertainment was provided by Starkidz and the characters from Frozen. Thank you to all the parents who donated some fantastic raffle prizes and those who helped with the planning. See photo page in the ‘Christmas Events’ further on in this Newsletter. We would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and look forward to more successful events in the New Year.
