almost two decades ago , all the riders had - for the first time - the same possibilities to compete for victory thanks to an equal tyre supply . Back then , it was the first single tyre supply formula ever for a motorcycle world championship . Today , it is the longest single tyre supply formula in the history of motorsport .
Pirelli involvement in WorldSBK is not only a partnership with objectives of brand exposure and marketing activations . More importantly and strategically it becomes an actual development platform for the technologies and the material that are then used for the road oriented products .
Versatility is the strength of Pirelli ’ s racing product , which is able to offer the highest performance to top level competitions while being friendly to the amateur consumer . From this approach sprang the now famous Pirelli motto : “ We sell what we race , we race what we sell .”
The latest point of particular focus for Pirelli is the new rear-only SCQ tyre solution , designed to be used during qualifying sessions and the ten-lap Superpole Race . It will be a completely new replacement for the previous qualifying ( Q ) tyre , which from this season will no longer be available .
This has echoes of when the SCX compound was introduced in 2019 . Since then , thanks to constant improvements in the SCX solutions by Pirelli , and improvements by the teams in exploiting the capabilities of this tyre option , it has enjoyed widespread success . By the 2021 season the SCX solution was used by the majority of the grid in most of the circuits , and for the long distance races .
With the latest SCQ solutions Pirelli intends to offer something new , and with even greater performance . The company has not rested during the winter break . It has been hard at work to produce several specifications of the SCQ tyre that have been tested during the off-season , at Portimao and Jerez , by the majority of the teams .
Pirelli has taken all the feedback of the riders from the winter tests and has been working hard again to fine tune the SCQ solution for the beginning of the 2022 season .
The first official SCQ specification made its debut at the opening WorldSBK round at MotorLand Aragon .
