“ No . We ’ re really close . There ’ ll never be a day where I don ’ t speak to him on the phone . At least on the phone , if not FaceTime . It ’ s hard to describe our relationship . We ’ re so close .”
Only possible through being identical twin brothers ? “ I don ‘ t know ,” said Alex , who of course has never known another way of life . “ It ’ s a bit more than a best friend . I haven ’ t got any other brothers to compare . We ’ ve got a really close relationship . It ’ s like Corinne has to go out with me and Sam - I ’ m not sure if that ’ s a good idea ! The thing is , my brother is a completely different character , completely different . It ’ s different now because there ’ s so much more going on in our lives away from the track , like I said , with family . We ’ re a lot older , so naturally there ’ s more stuff happening . You ’ re doing more other stuff . He lives two miles - less - from me . But , obviously , when we stop racing , we ’ re still going to be spending a lot of time together . Now , we have other problems that we talk about , and not just racing problems . Life problems . When you ’ re an adult and you ’ re selling a house and other stuff . But he ’ s a great guy .”
What advice would you give your 21-year-old self now that you ’ re 31 , Alex ? “ You can ’ t learn stuff without experience , but if I could - which is hard for me to say because I never would have thought that way - I would say don ’ t take it seriously . It ’ s never as bad as you think when it ’ s going bad . It ’ s never as good as you think when it ’ s going good . So , don ’ t take it seriously . Enjoy it more . Everybody says when you ’ re younger , ‘ Enjoy it .’ But when you ’ re younger , you can ’ t enjoy it because you ’ re so focused on where you ’ re going and what you want to do . Everything else passes you by . But , before you know it , you are 31 . You look back and you think , ‘ that ’ s gone fast .’ So , you can ’ t forget to enjoy it because unfortunately it just goes too fast . Then you end up passing it by and it ‘ s just gone . That ’ s what I would say .”
A lot of racing left in Lowes yet , starting this weekend at his home circuit .
