RACING ’ S FANTASY ISLAND
EXCITING CONTENT
It has been too long since we raced WorldSBK for real at PI , but here we are , back again , and looking forward to devouring the competitive food-for-the-eyes ’ n ’ ears , served up in mother nature ’ s five-star asphalt kitchen , complete with a very large outdoor viewing area and desirable beachfront location .
Like lots of other classic and , dare I say it , old school circuits , Phillip Island ’ s basic layout was fashioned in geological deep time . Just like Brands Hatch in the UK , or Imola / Mugello in Italy or the old dry lagoon at Laguna Seca in the USA . The asphalt was more-or-less laid onto what was already there in each case . It ’ s impossible to imagine changing PI without maybe taking something unique away from it . It is a true wonder of racing nature .
Whether you are staying in a hotel , holiday home , trailer , camper or tent - or just a special day-trip , Phillip Island 2022 has so much going on within the environs of the circuit that we are going to struggle to list them all , never mind do them justice . wheels the whole event this year is sponsored by the Grand Ridge Brewery . There will be lots of high quality coldies on the premises . You will find the Public Bar inside the always popular WorldSBK Expo building .
A regular and very popular highlight over the weekend is the Expo , located in the exhibition building alongside Gardner Straight , opposite the pit garages . Major motorcycle and accessory suppliers are represented in the Expo with plenty to see and buy . Admission is free to event patrons and it opens from 9.00am to 6.00pm Friday , 8.00am to 6.00pm Saturday and 8.00am to 5.00pm Sunday .
In the paddock itself , there will be the Paddock Party and Parc Ferme . The World Superbike Paddock Party gets bigger and better every year , and for all three-day pass-holders , access to the Paddock is completely free . Be right in the middle of the Parc Ferme when the race winner and podium riders all come after the races for you to see up close .
Between the races , there plenty to oggle or participate in . For those avoiding post race appointments with handlebars or steering
This being WorldSBK there will be plenty of opportunities to meet the riders at the Paddock SuperShow , grab some autographs , ask
