Golf Club News The Flyer Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club News BSGC Ladies Open 2018 Three Young Golfers head off to America Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club held a farewell party, with lots of American razzmatazz to wish Jon Hopkins, Rebecca Earl and Matt Green every success as they head off to colleges in America on golfi ng scholarships. Jon and Matt both joined the Dunmow Road club when they were just 8 years old with Rebecca joining when she was 11 years old. Junior Organiser Graham Oram told The Flyer that all three had played a signifi cant role in taking the junior section to the level it is at today, which now produces some of the best young golfers in the country. The successes these three have achieved at club, country and national level were inspirational which others are now following. Jon was junior Captain in 2016, with Rebecca following in 2017 and Matt is currently in situ. In addition to a wealth of individual trophies they have collected at various levels, all three over recent years have represented England Schools in the home international series and their combined record is very impressive with just one loss from eight matches. Jon now heads off to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, with Rebecca bound for Wofford College in Spartanburg in South Carolina, while Matt jets off to Newmans University in Wichita Kansas. It is thought that this is the fi rst occasion in the club’s 108-year history that anyone of its members has gone to America on golfi ng scholarships; a route which in years to come may become a regular occurrence for this junior friendly club.
