Wadi Hussain Mosque, Thailand
Also Known as ‘300 Years Mosque’, this is
the oldest wooden mosque in Narathiwat,
Thailand. Finished built in 1634, it is still in
use by local Muslim community today. Mostly,
the material was made from Hummingbird
tree’s wood and ironwood tree. Uniquely,
wedges were used on that time because nails
are not invented yet, to hold the wood in its
position. The Minaret of the mosque were
influenced by Chinese style while the rest of
the building are the combination of several
architectural styles from Thais and Malays.
Tengkera Mosque, Melaka
The words Tengkera was derived from
Portuguese word ‘Tranquera’ which means
fort, fence or gate. It was built during the
Portuguese colonization on Malacca in 1728,
approximately 300 years after Parameswara
discovered Malacca. It is the second oldest
mosque besides Kampung Hulu Mosque. The
roof was categorized of three compartments,

verandah roof, prayer hall roof and the dome
roof. The main entrance was decorated with
khat-style writing and used Pagoda style roof.
This mosque also contain the tomb of Sultan
Hussein Muazzam Shah from Johor, who has
deal with Stamford Raffles for the concession
of Singapore in 1819.
