Stop motion productions can be presented in a variety of genres and forms for example they can be
presented as TV animation such as ‘Adventure Time’ which is an animated TV show for children
produced by Pendleton Ward, they create these animations by linking drawings together which they
have produced, this can also be categorized as a cartoon. Another way that stop motion can be
presented would be cinema which we can see in films such as Tim Burtons ‘A Nightmare before
Christmas’ where he has created a feature length
production through the movements of puppets.
Stop motion is also presented as music videos in
some cases, ‘Tool – Sober’ is a good example of
when music videos can be a suitable platform for
stop motion, the music playing is slow metal. The
video perfectly captures this as they have used a
low frame rate to make the video more
uncomfortable, they have also used dark themes
such as nails. The work by Fred Stuhr is very similar
to The Brothers Quay as both use consistent dark themes in their productions. Advertising can also
be a suitable for stop motion, an example of this would be the ‘John Lewis Christmas Advert – 2013’
where they have used stop motion to show a relationship between a bear and a hare. They created
the production with different images and changing the images each frame. Channel idents such as
Wallace and Gromit for BBC are suitable as it is a stop motion production therefore the ident is then
suitable for the BBC.
