T he world, for the Huicholes, is divided into three universes:
The Universe of Mythology , where Huichol stands that life began
in the ocean, The Universe of Maize , where everyday life and tra-
ditions are developed, and The Universe of Mysticism , which
reveals art in its rituals and gives them a total identity.
T
he Huicholes
inhabit the north of
Jalisco, part of Nayarit,
Zacatecas and Duran-
go states in México.,
live their culture up the
mountain range that
crosses these states,
and for their fortune,
really isolated. They
retain until now their
legendary and ancient
customs, of which they
live very proud.
T he Huichols are one of the ethnic groups that have managed to
remain "pure" since the Spanish conquest. They refer to themselves as
"Wirrárrica" or Wirraritari ". The mountains are cared for and adored by
the mystical culture of the Huichol community; And so they developed
this art in their hands, to speak and communicate through forms, sym-
bols, and colors, sharing moons, suns, trees, labyrinths, mountains and
rain. The Huicholes, are a village of artists through the centuries.
