For the year 1811 and in compliance with Laws and Ordinances of
the Indies, the reduction or village of Ostucal was erected in
town, with the name of San Luis de la Reina, being incorporated
the new municipality in the district of San Miguel. The colonial
authority appointed ejidos to the new population, fixed the
common and municipal taxes to their neighbors, and appointed
and gave possession of their positions to the members of the first
municipality, while the ecclesiastical authority put the new
population under the patronage of St. Louis, whose festivities
were to take place on August 25 of each year.
