Fires blazing at San Lameer / Vure brand by San Lameer A very serious fire occurred on 24 July 2019 at San Lameer. The fire originated in the neighbouring town of Trafalgar, but with strong westerly winds of approximately 50-60km/h prevailing, the fire quickly jumped the fence and entered the Estate. At first Lots 143 and 144 were affected with dense smoke and soot, but then it moved over to Lot 16 around lunchtime threatening Villas 1601, 1602 and 1603, but fortunately no fire damage was caused to these units. Driven by the westerly wind, the fire rapidly moved all the way to the southern perimeter fence adjacent to the sea and to the lagoon destroying timber sections of Loop3 of the Mountain Bike Trail as well as the Lagoon and Sea Viewing Decks. At around 3pm the fire jumped the lagoon and headed east through the dune forest section threatening Lots 29, 30, 34 and 35. The local fire brigade together with the San Lameer staff teams battled the fire in the dune forest and the southern side of the estate. The fire kept flaring up, so it was all hands-on deck with hosepipes on roofs and firefighter activity. Fortunately, the teams together with the fire brigade controlled the fire to such an extent that no villas were affected. Section 3 on the Mountain Bike Trail was severely damaged and for now will be closed until repaired. We sincerely thank each and every staff member of the Association, Golf Club and Estate Hotel, contractors, local farmers and the Municipal Fire Brigade for their contribution in keeping San Lameer safe. San Lameer Maintenance team have been pro-active after the fire to ensure that we are able to contain any fire on the Estate whilst waiting for the fire department of the local municipality. Additional fire suits for staff have been purchased and all fire nozzles and fire hose reels have been checked and where necessary serviced again. We have also included the purchase of a new fire fighting trailer into the budget of the next financial year. Our maintenance department has also sent four staff members for fire training. Please remember that our capabilities to fight any fire on the Estate is very limited and that the fighting of any fires inside San Lameer Estate is the responsibility of the Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality. Gelukkig is daar geen brandskade by hierdie eenhede gevind nie.
