SAN FRANCISCO PUBLIC WORKS ANNUAL REPORT FISCAL YEAR 2015-16 Sunset Rain Gardens The Sunset rain gardens were constructed as part of the City’s mission to transform San Francisco’s hardscape into planted and permeable landscape. The rain gardens divert stormwater from the street into landscaped areas in order to reduce the amount of water going to treatment plants. Rainwater is collected from the street via catch basins and piped into garden areas that have been lined with a special soil mix, allowing water to percolate at a predetermined flow rate. sfwater.org/index.aspx?page=682
