Formally known as Gaius Cornelius Tacitus, Tacitus was well-known writer of works examining the reigns of the great Tiberius, Claudius, and the lovely Nero. Interestingly enough, his first name is unknown. Various works have offered possibilities. Born to an equestrian family in the provinces, his original birth year is unknown. Sources have suggested the years 56 or 57 AD. He was a great part of what is popularized as the Silver Age of Latin Literature. An author well-known for his brevity in his descriptions of occurrences of the time period, Tacitus was a significant figure.

Tacitus

Like Tacitus, Seneca was also born into the Silver Age of Latin Literature. His full name was Lucius Annaeus Seneca and he was born in Cordoba, Spain. Seneca fell ill at a relatively young age. He had been educated in a philosophy where stoicism was a staunch pillar and happened to come upon some trouble with Claudius. Seneca was only kept alive because Claudius was told his was already ailing and had not much time left. Soon, he became the advisor of Nero. After being falsely accused of being a part of a conspiracy, he took his own death.
