Burns and his family came back to the farm about 10 years ago.“ I used to help my dad, always helped him do hay in the summer. You never really leave the farm completely. I was close enough to help,” he said.
His close proximity made the transition easier, and having sister Lasea and brother Buster close by, both living within five miles of the farm, ensured help was available. Lasea and her family have a farm themselves, but they also lend a hand at the homeplace. Lasea’ s daughter has been particularly helpful this year. Buster is a loan officer at a bank, and he helps when he can.
“ I knew I’ d have to have two jobs if I was going to farm. My wife and I started out on a different path, but this is where I ended up,” said Burns.“ I feel blessed to be here, but it’ s not been without trials and tribulations.”
Prior to returning to the farm, Burns had a lot of automotive experience running a repair shop and a paint and body shop, and he bought and sold cars, all in the Harrison area.“ Being
