Education & Culture PAGLULUAL is organized with four key components. USAPANG LUAD is an academic seminar where local and international ceramic experts present their work, their influences, inspirations and processes. LIKHANG LUAD is the umbrella term for all creative activities in the event, where invited ceramic art experts share their expertise in lectures, demonstrations, workshops, and kiln building. PABINYAG NG APOY includes all traditional and alternative firing activities of the event. The highlight of which is the firing of LUAL Kiln. Finally, KATHANG LUAD is an exhibition that features the works of invited ceramic experts, faculty, students and project participants. As a whole, PAGLULUAL imbibes the ideas of LUAL, exuding the emotions that go with conceiving, creating and nurturing; sharing the vision of transforming society through ceramic arts, by inspiring and progressing individual and collective journeys in clay. Through these projects, the researcher hoped to enrich the knowledge, skills, techniques and practices of not only the UP Fine Arts community, but also of ceramic and materials engineering students and faculty from within and outside the university, local potters, and members of the ceramic and pottery communities and industries. The PAGLULUAL projects helped to jumpstart interest in ceramics and pottery among UP students and subsequently, the development of new academic ceramic programs. More broadly, PAGLULUAL also paved the way for cultural exchanges between UP and both local and foreign universities and fostered a culture of research among beneficiaries through exposure to the varied possibilities and potential of ceramic arts. Beyond learning and collaboration, the projects also promoted Philippine ceramic arts through the development of local clays and clay bodies in pioneer sites in Batangas and Ilocos Norte. By raising awareness and interest in stoneware clay art, the PAGLULUAL projects aim to raise the profile and entrepreneurial value of Philippine ceramics.
