Executive summary Through the Municipal Audit Support Programme (MASP), SALGA has supported 31 municipalities with an aim to improving audit outcomes. Although the main focus has been on municipalities in the “red zone”, support has been provided to other municipalities on a request basis. Even though the current outcomes show some regressions, a comparison of the targeted trend when MASP was launched shows that municipalities are ahead of the curve in achieving targeted outcomes. This is depicted in the graphs below. Emerging trend Municipal audit support programme Mandate 5: Strategic profiling SALGA was active in respect of its fifth mandate, which is to build the profile and image of local government in South Africa as well as outside the country. In fulfilling its mandate, SALGA achieved its desired outcome of learning from international experience on the one hand, and contributing its own unique perspective to local government around the world. The efforts in this regard ensured a victory, not just for South Africa but for the African continent and the world.
