NATIONAL SECRETARY ’ S MESSAGE :

MARLENE GAMBLE

My interview for the position as SAIRAC National Secretary took place at the Algoa Yacht Club in Port Elizabeth during a National Council Meeting held on the 4th of December 2009 .
The National Council at the time consisted of Industry icons such as Mr John Ackermann who was treasurer ; Mr Mike Veldon , Chairman of Johannesburg Centre and Vice President ; Mr Steven Friedmann , Chairman of Cape Town Centre ; Mr Steve Aburn , Chairman of Durban Centre ; Mr Allan Gaia , Chairman of Port Elizabeth Centre ; and Mr Piet le Roux , President of SAIRAC , whom I must thank for all the knowledge he passed on to me in order to successfully handle the day-to-day affairs of SAIRAC , as well as the hugely helpful Operational Procedures Manual he compiled .
My first quarterly National Council Meeting attended was in Durban 19 th February 2010 .
Some of the many exciting and interesting projects I have been involved with since joining SAIRAC , and outside of the daily running of SAIRAC have been :
• Planning the first SAIRAC ‘ Meet and Greet ’ in conjunction with Frigair Exhibition 2010 and all subsequent Expos thereafter .
• The launch of the SAIRAC HERVAC video showcasing Industry opportunities to students .
• Updating to version 3 of the SAIRAC Technical Data Manual .
• Digitising SAIRAC Educational Material .
• Archiving SAIRAC application forms .
• Revision of SAIRAC Constitution in 2012 and again in 2018 .
• Planning the itinerary , booking the flights and accommodation for our Dreosti Memorial Lecture Guest Speakers : Prof Derek Clements- Croome in June 2013 and Dr Volkmar Hasse in June 2019 .
• Running the Port Elizabeth Centre Gold Days from 2012 to 2018 .
What I love about SAIRAC is the many different people one gets to meet , the diverse projects to plan and fulfil and the never-ending learning curves . The next project I hope to be around and be able to work on , and one I am looking forward to as it will be a first for me , is the Frigair Conference originally planned for 2023 but due to Covid-19 has now been earmarked for 2024 .
