This
raises
an
important
question;
which
is
more
important,
the
will
of
the
state
or
the
individual?
There
are
many
ways
she
can
be
identified
and
then
go
into
court
and
stand
trial.
Claire
Burtwistle
(the
woman’s
barrister)
suggested
a
female
member
of
the
court
and
a
female
security
guard
could
take
the
girl
to
a
small
room
where
she
could
remove
her
burqa
and
be
identified
and
then
straight
after
she
would
be
escorted
into
court
by
the
security
guard
so
she
could
not
switch
with
somebody
else
whilst
avoiding
revealing
her
face
to
a
full
court.
Even
the
prosecuting
police
officer
in
charge
of
the
case
was
content
that
he
recognised
the
defendant
while
she
was
in
a
burqa.
In
fact,
the
officer
may
not
even
have
been
able
to
recognise
the
girl
at
all
in
plain
clothes,
as
women
tend
to
look
very
different
without
a
burqa.
So
after
the
judge
had
been
given
all
these
solutions
he
still
refused
to
let
the
girl
stand
trial.
His
legal
power
over
the
court
was
used
to
persecute
this
girl
unjustly.
This
abuse
of
power
and
discrimination,
however,
is
not
a
new
thing;
it
has
been
going
on
since
the
10th
century.
With
this
historical
knowledge
we
can
try
and
develop
early
warning
systems
to
stop
these
processes
before
they
are
exaggerated.
