ALUMNI NOTES
Kevin B. McKiernan ’58 premiered his documentary Bringing King to China earlier this past fall. (See poster below.) A few of his Saint David’s classmates attended, including Robert Renner ’58. Robert writes, “I was excited to attend the opening of Kevin McKiernan’s new film at the DOC, NYC Documentary film festival. Kevin and I graduated together at the first Saint David’s Commencement in 1958. I was also honored to meet his charming daughter, Caitrin McKiernan, the heroine of her father’s documentary. This film, about a young American teacher, documents her struggles to bring Dr. King’s philosophy of peace and non-violence to the Chinese people. Her father Kevin, photographed her yearlong efforts to interpret and introduce King’s message into Chinese society through a stage play performed at the National Theater of China. This film was enlightening and enjoyable and should be available for viewing in the near future.” J. Bryan Murphy ’63 and his wife dropped in for a visit in early November. Both loved seeing the school and how much it has grown. He enjoys staying in touch with other alumni and was, most recently, able to catch up with Rupert Fennell ’59. Edward C. Pellegrini ’65 has written three wellness cookbooks. He is excited about his most recent creation: www. LaCucinaSantaMonica.com. The website is a labor of love and, more important, fun and rewarding. Leon H. Horne ’72 writes, “My son just graduated from Southern Methodist University with a degree in History. I still see Frank Loughran, Siegfried Knopf, Tim Kerns, Rex Conniff, Pete Tommaney, Neil Volant, and Louis Bucceri. Our 40th is coming up and hope to see everyone else there!” Lucian Lipinsky de Orlov ’74 visited the school with his daughter, Genevieve. He attended Saint David’s for a few years as a young boy, and has very fond memories. He enjoyed seeing the Chapel and marveled at how well the school building and rooms have been maintained. Robert F. Hein ’75 writes, “Lots of news—always little time to write about it. I retired last June from the Army as a lieutenant colonel after 28 great years. Moved to the family beach house in Bay Head, NJ, and am planning on spending the next two to three years renovating it and turning it into a year-round home. Christina graduated from Skidmore College, summa cum laude, as a psychology major and is now completing an internship at the Boston Veterans Administration Hospital, working with veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder while preparing for graduate school. Allison graduated from high school and is attending Skidmore College. The picture below shows Major General McCoy, The Inspector General of the Army, presenting my retirement certificate to me.”
