A R O U N D C A M P U S Learning About Careers in Omega Omega boys learned all about careers during the fall. Broadway composer Tom Kitt and several other special guest parents and friends visited. The unit included field trips to the Queens County Museum, the local Post Office, and Fire Department. At the end, the boys delighted parents and visitors during the Career Fair. Ghost Paintings Boys’ experiments with magnets set the stage for a Halloween STEAM project in Second Grade: “ghost paintings!” Each boy cut a construction paper circle and placed it in an aluminum pie pan. On each table sat six cups of paint, each also holding a large, steel marble. With a spoon, the boys selected a color, and scooped up a bit of that paint plus the marble. Then, by manipulating a magnet below the pie pan, boys were able to pull the marble through the paint, without touching it, creating vibrant, swirling patterns. Looking from above, on Halloween, you might believe that an invisible spirit was helping the boys make the artwork, but the boys know they were helped by an invisible force: magnetism!
