Argentina in New York Pupusas
Boys in Ms. Nunez’s Seventh Grade Spanish class explored
Argentinian culture, presenting research presentations, in
Spanish, on a topic of their choice, such as animals, sports,
and music. (See Ms. Nunez’s article on page 20 for more
about how the school’s immersion program builds cultural
competency by incorporating the study of cultures.) Boys in Ms. Berman’s Spanish class tried pupusas, a specialty
of her native country, El Salvador. For many of the boys, this
was the first time they had tasted it. The class talked about
the importance of being respectful of other cultures’ foods.
Patterns!
Kindergarten math classes began their year with an
exploration of sorting and patterning.
