NBS Lectures
Finn O’Sullivan ’19 was the winner of this year’s NBS Lectures on Art, for his commanding presentation and analysis of
Mondrian’s Broadway Boogie Woogie. Congratulations to Finn and to finalists Will Cihra, Taylor Kruse and Teddy Roberts
for their exceptional lectures, delivered for the first time in our new Otto-Bernstein Performing Arts Theatre.
Survivors
For several weeks during this year’s Lord of the Flies unit,
seventh graders participated in a unique, immersive learning
experience, which compelled them to collaborate in decision-
making, explore how societies are organized, and experiment
with various responses to obstacles. The class played an
“island survival” game, simulating the circumstances of
Golding’s novel and working together in “tribes” to navigate
their way through challenges in an effort to “survive.” The
activity integrated history through discussion of government
systems, writing, critical reflection, and debate.
