75th Anniversary Edition

On this anniversary occasion, Barbara Slaker Findley shares,“ I’ m in a unique position in the history of the school. I was hired in 1980( as Barbara Slaker) to teach math as one of the only women to teach in the upper school. My son, Cary( Class of 1988) started in the first grade. With David Hume, Mal Cleary, Dick Dryzga and Ray Feerick as mentors, how could I be anything else but wonderfully successful! I returned to Saint David’ s in 1997, remarried as Barbara Findley. Now at age 76, I can say that the years at Saint David’ s were the highlights of my life for me and my son.” Living in Georgia, she sends her best to the entire community,“ I won’ t be able to attend the anniversary celebrations, but my heart and spirit will be there- May Saint David’ s celebrate 75 more!”
CLASS OF’ 72 UPDATES:
CHIP HORNE’ 72 relays that FRANK LOUGHRAN’ 72 and family visited him in Florida. Meanwhile in Bergen County, NJ, NEIL VOLANT’ 72 can be found child-proofing his home for a Christmas morning visit from his grandchildren. TOM GREEN’ 72, an Ithaca College graduate, has been a TV sportscaster in the Denver market.
TOM CALLOWAY’ 72 shares,“ The older I get, the more I enjoy the annual missive from our Headmaster. It takes me back to formative emotional and spiritual growth from Mr. Hume, Mr. Clifton, and numerous others who impacted my education.” A favorite quote from Calloway,“ I consistently revel in reminding characters on TV of the use of“ fewer”( things that can be counted) and“ less”( things that cannot be). Knowing the difference is but one of the gifts( apart from lifelong friends) bestowed by a Saint David’ s education!”
NICHOLAS SANTOS-SHIN’ 22 proudly shares in the winter,“ I was admitted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and wanted to personally thank Dr. O’ Halloran and Saint David’ s for being such a formative part of my education as a student and young man. Throughout my four years at Regis, I have always tried to keep in mind the four pillars of Saint David’ s. Now as I look towards college, I hope to continue living out these four pillars. At MIT, I will study physics, play on the Division III men’ s soccer team, continue taking cello lessons, and hope to find a Catholic community to be a part of. I am forever indebted to Saint David’ s for the incredible experiences and opportunities I was given.”
FRANK HICKEY’ 67 shares,“ After a detective career, I return from months in war-torn Ukraine. My eleventh published book,“ Ukraine, Whaddya Gonna Do? or Sunshine, SALO and Sirens,” tells the story. My Saint David’ s teachers, Mr. Robert Tash and Mr. Robert McLaughlin, must take the credit or the blame. For they opened up the world of writing to me as a timid ten-year-old.”
