Message from our Chairman: “I am
privileged to be among such a great
group of friends and helping to deliver
a high quality, safe and exciting
spectacle for the local community.
The energy and enthusiasm that the
local area has shown for Carnival is
incredible and the Round Table team is
determined to put on a brilliant show
for you. This year’s Carnival will see
the whole town come together for the
most excellent celebration of music,
entertainment and community spirit.
We hope the range of entertainment
will appeal to ever yone and with all
profi ts made from Carnival getting
allocated to worthy local causes,
your attendance will also count as a
donation! We could not achieve this
“8 day weekend” without the support
of our Carnival Partners, the Local
Council, the Carnival volunteers and
everyone else who gets involved to
make Carnival a massive success, so
thank you!” Guy Shackleton, 2017
Carnival Chairman
Friday 7th July – Family Night
Your Eight Day Weekend kicks off with
a royal coronation! Saffron Walden’s
favourite triennial party begins with
the Crowning of the Carnival Queen
and her attendants. The resplendent
ceremony will be followed by a night
of entertainment fi t for the Queen, and
fun for the whole family.
You’ve seen them on TV, you’ve seen
them on YouTube. Now see them on
the Carnival main stage. Headlining
Carnival Opening Night are X-Factor
2016 fi nalists 5 After Midnight, the
song and dance team that wowed the
crowd. Nathan, Kieran, and Jordan
are so impressive that Simon Cowell
called them “the best group he’d ever
seen”, and signed them to his label,
Syco Music!
Emerging superstar, Larissa Eddie will
also be in attendance to dazzle you
with her talent and The Lady Godiva
String Quartet will provide nothing
less than a stunning show for all the
family!
Saturday 8th July – Blues Bros &
End Of The Century
Jake and Elwood are getting the
band back together! For one night
only, after a six year hiatus, Saffron
Walden Carnival is proud to present
the Fabulous Blues Brothers Rhythm
and Blues Review. Formed over 25
years ago on a Mission from God,
and a regular fi xture at Carnival ever
since, the Blues Brothers make their
long-awaited return to the Carnival
main stage to kick off the Eight
Day Weekend, Chicago style. Local
favourites End of the Century will
support. Elwood Blues said: “End has
some of the UK’s pre-eminent rock
and pop session musicians, each at the
absolute pinnacle of their craft. I’m
just sorry we couldn’t get them in the
band.”
Sunday 9th July – Race Night
This is the place to be on Sunday 9th
July. Under starters orders and for the
very fi rst time, Carnivals Race Night

Included in the ticket price is a sure

evening of entertainment and fun.
Saffron Walden Round Table would like
to thank The Diamonds for organising
this event on their behalf.
Monday 10th July – Ladies Night
So naughty, but so nice! It’s ladies
night, and oh, what a night! The
beefcake boys of [whoever] will be
baring their talents in what promises
to be a high-octane night of music,
dancing, and maybe some romancing!
Tuesday 11th July - Scrumpy &
Western night Feat. The Wurzels
Ooo ar, ooo ar, ooo ar! West Country
national treasures The Wurzels are
making their Carnival debut on their
51st anniversary tour. The world-
famous Scrumpy and Western band
has never stopped gigging, and their
combine harvester is revving up heavy
with their old favourites and new hits,
including highlights from their brand
new album (number 30!), A Load
More Bullocks! Take hold of the key to
your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to

up close in personal at the Eight
Day Weekend. Perpetual Irish folk-
favourites Life of Riley will support.
Thursday 13th July - One Night
Of Queen (Gary Mullen & The
Works) & Wrong Stewart and the
Farces
Freddy Mercury will live on in our
hearts forever. Now Carnival gives
you the chance for a fl eeting belief
in reincarnation. Gary Mullen and
The Works bring their magical
interpretation of Queen and its
legendary front man to the Carnival
main stage, following their smash
hit US tour. Gary won Stars in Their
Eyes back in 2000, and has been
playing his outstanding tribute to
Freddie and Queen ever since. The
fi rst three YouTube comments on his
performance of It’s a kind of magic say
it all: “I think Freddie Mercury would
be very happy with this.” “I think
that’s as close as it gets to Freddie.”
“Somewhere Freddie is smiling.”
Another great tribute act, local
favourites Wrong Stewart & The Farces,
will support.

party-end to Carnival 2017! 5ive is
one of the biggest UK boybands ever.
Ritchie Neville, Scott Robinson and
Sean Conlon are back to entertain
Carnival fans as a trio. S Club 7’s
latest O2 gig was described by the

joy cemented by pure pop brilliance
that electrifi ed the crowd”. Three
