Saffron Walden Salvation Army

Volunteering to Bring Change

The Salvation Army is a church and charity that seeks to fulfil its motto of ‘ heart to God hand to man ’ in Saffron Walden and surrounding villages . We aim to serve the community as a whole . We provide a church service each Sunday at 10am and we have a focus on family life and building good relationships at our family friendly ‘ messy church ’ on the 1st Sunday of every month at 4pm which is free and includes a buffet tea for all the family .
We aim to serve the needs of the local community with a chance to meet others and chat and find help if needed at our café two days a week called ‘ the well ’ which runs from 10am-1.30pm tues / thurs and its a place where refreshments and sandwiches / cake etc are available . It has a friendly atmosphere and is a place where mums , dads / children can come and relax while the children play . A listening ear is always available and it is also the local foodbank distribution centre which runs on Friday mornings too . As well as this we offer a toddlersong group on a wed morning 10-11.15am term time and a CAMEO ( come and meet each other ) group for over 50 ’ s which runs fortnightly on a tues pm from 2.15- 3.30pm and this is an ideal place to meet others and share together in fun and fellowship .
In Saffron Walden town centre we run a Charity shop which funds our local
work which includes presents and food hampers for Children and families at Christmas and a Christmas day meal for those who would otherwise be alone . The service we provide doesn ’ t just happen at Christmas it is all year round and we are always on hand to help with local people in need and the support of the local community is vital to continue our work . We are given many donations through our shop and individuals and would like to say a very big thank you for all who support our work . We are always looking for extra volunteers to help in our shop or café so if you have time to spare please contact us .
At Easter this year we are holding a holiday club on our site with the help of the next door URC church . This will be a free event for children of school years 3-7 ( 7-12yr olds ) from Mon- Fri 3rd-7th April from 9.30-12noon each day . A time to learn the real meaning of Easter through craft , games , stories and puppets . to register for this we have an online form ( www . ehc . saffronwalden . me . uk ) or you can contact us directly .

Most of you will have at one time spotted one of our beautifully unique window displays in the St . Elizabeth ’ s Charity Shop on King Street . Our volunteers love to express themselves through their work here at St . Elizabeth ’ s Shop Saffron Walden and we love to encourage them !
St . Elizabeth ’ s is a centre based near Much Hadham , providing specialist education , care and living facilities 24 hours a day , 52 weeks a year , for children and adults with severe epilepsy and other complex needs . We believe that everyone , regardless of needs or abilities should have the opportunity to live life to the full ! Our charity shops , of which we have 7 in the local area , helps us raise funds for the development and improvement of facilities and experiences for our children and adults .
We couldn ’ t do as much as we do without our volunteers ! Vic , a volunteer at our Saffron Walden Shop has been with us for 3 years . “ Volunteering here has helped to raise my selfconfidence ; I was quite shy when I

Kids can enjoy the derby match between SWTFC and Haverhill Rovers for fee !
On Easter Monday the 17th April , Saffron Walden will be welcoming Haverhill Rovers to Caton ’ s Lane . Both clubs are in the Thurlow Nunn Premier . In order to raise fund for their floodlight appeal , the club are allowing children to go free of charge with one paying adult . With a history that goes back over four generation , the derby match is not to be missed .
The lights at Caton ’ s Lane failed an inspection last month and the club has been warned that if improvements are
first started here ! I get to meet lots of local people and have also been trained to do the PAT testing for all of our electrical goods ! I always look forward to my shift .” Our volunteers are trained in all aspects of the business to help find what suits their needs and personality . We love to welcome new customers with a ‘ Hello ’ and help them to find what they need . Volunteering is a fantastic way of getting back in to the work place , through the development of new skills , building confidence and adding something new to your CV ! It is also a wonderful way to meet new friends and find out what is going on in the community .
We are currently supporting families in the Saffron Walden area and hope that you will help us to continue doing , so if you are looking to do some volunteering , please pop in to see us or contact Katherine on saffronwalden @ stelizabeths . org . uk , we ’ d love to meet you !

On the day Saffron Walden Town FC will have number of activities for the children to take part in , and they hope to see as many people as possible . Saffron Walden Town FC has always been a family club for the community and would really like to see some new faces at the ground .
